Another swordmanship Question?

Can anyone give me a list of styles of swordmanship? I%26#039;m bascially looking for any styles of martial arts with a sword as the primary weapon. Also, the web is filled with japanese styles of swordmanship so please do not waste my time with them. And finally, all I%26#039;m looking for is a list, not a dissertation on swords or a particular style of swordsmanship

Another swordmanship Question?
You could look at Krabi Krabong. It is a Thai style that is part of traditional Muy Thai. You could also look at Silat, and the Philippine escrima methods using the Kris, Bolo, and Kampilan. There are also the European fencing schools. (Yes... these are also a martial art. They were used in combat and self defense; they are just not influenced by Asian techniques.) There are several Chinese Kung-fu styles that incorporate various swords. The African Ta-Merrian style incorporates sword techniques. Hawaiian Lua even incorporates techniques that can be used with a sword or bladed weapon. Traditionally they used wooden clubs that were laced with sharks teeth at the edges.

Lets face it.... wherever you find conflict in world history you will find that a martial art was developed.

Take your pick of sword forms.

Good luck.
Reply:I don%26#039;t know anything about the styles from Asia, so I won%26#039;t even start there. However, I am extremely familiar with Western styles.

However, in Europe styles did not have pretty names like Eastern styles. Instead, they are referred to as the master who taught it and the weapon associated with it, or sometimes the manual involved. So, really, I can give you a list of names for you to work off of.

Fiore Dei Liberi

Johannes Lichtenauer

Sigmund Ringeck

Hans Talhoffer

Albrecht Durer

Ott

Meyer

Manuscript I:33

Codex Wallerstein

George Silver and the Paradoxe of Defence

Vincentio Saviolo His Practise

Giacomo Di Grassi

And there are many, many more European swordmasters and their own styles for their particular weapons. These are only amongst those I%26#039;m familiar with and I%26#039;ve trained in at some point.

Hope it helps.
