I never realized how many people on here think MMA is only for ring fighting!?

Someone on here posted a comment about MMA being the best street fighting system and I noticed that a lot of stupid people began calling him names etc!

The fact is MMA stands for mixed martial arts! That means the best techniques from several different styles are combined to create a realistic fighting system! I know that is hard for some people on here to realize this, but it%26#039;s not just for ring fights!

And yes Special Forces do crosstrain in different styles of martial arts(MMA duh!). It is also true that Special Forces are NOT as good as MMA fighters for hand-to-hand fighting! MMA fighters train ALL the time in hand-to-hand fighting. Special Forces focus on a lot of other stuff so they don%26#039;t have time to train as much in hand-to-hand fighting!

Personally I think too many people on here need to educate themselves on what MMA really stands for!

Agree?

I never realized how many people on here think MMA is only for ring fighting!?
You are 100% correct!

Special Forces are OVERRATED when it comes to bare fists hand-to-hand fighting. A experienced MMA guy would win 9 out of 10 times in a street fight against a Special Force guy. That%26#039;s just reality! MMA guys train all the time in hand-to-hand fighting...like you already said! Special Forces train in SOME hand-to-hand fighting, but focus mostly on weapons and survival. Special Forces are the best with weapons and surviving in a harsh enviroment, BUT when it comes to bare knuckle one-on-one fighting they are NOT!

Of course there are complete morons on here who say that Special Force guys have a killer mentality therefor they would win in a street fight against a MMA guy! LOL! The reality is there are regular civilians who kill people yet does that make them great fighters? OF COURSE NOT! Heck, we hear stories of young teenagers killing people!

Just because Fedor or Couture don%26#039;t kill people in the ring that DOES NOT mean they wouldn%26#039;t do it on the street if there lives depended on it! MMA focuses 100% on hand-to-hand fighting! PERIOD!
Reply:Ok, think about what you just said. MMA fighters train ALL the time to fight. Ok, how many of them are on 24/7 standby to deploy to life and death situations. Granted not all SF are A-team operational, but there are some. Having trained with an individual who actually trained his fellow troops in hand to hand and seeing the techniques involved... I would beg to differ. Of course he was SF back in the 60%26#039;s.
Reply:I%26#039;m not justifying an assumption made by others...but I think you are neglecting the fact that by and large, the MMA that people often refer to is equated to mean Pride or UFC and not the literal meaning of MMA.

You are absolutely correct in that a variety of techniques is the best course of action on the street...but with how MMA is depicted and handled in the mainstream, it%26#039;s a sport and ring combat with rules that cause one to train in a way that they might limit themselves in unregulated combat.

Also, I%26#039;d like to point out that one does not need to train in MMA to get the %26quot;best techniques%26quot;. There are several arts in existence that actually cover the gambit of what MMA tries for. You may want to take a moment and look up the start of the mainstream MMA that people are often referring to on these forums before jumping to conclusions yourself. It was started by a BJJ practicioner and, as the sport evolved, they had to mix with other arts in order to form a truly well rounded entertainment forum.
Reply:I train in %26quot;old school%26quot; MMA. The art I train in is from the Phillipines and has mixed in different styles that had arrived in the Phillipines either by war or migration. My MMA comes from the 15th century!
Reply:In general there are many misconceptions about martial arts. Myths like your art has to be connected to a direct line to something ancient to be effective. Myths like ancient martial artist were not Mixed martial artist or didn%26#039;t know how to fight. The poster above (somewhere) made a point that when someone says MMA they think UFC or Pride (or both). Hence the ring naturally comes to mind. There is some differences in the ring and the street. If I throw someone to the ground or slam them to the ground on cement, that is different than the ring. There is more safety (as there should be) in the ring. This is not to say a MMA, boxer muay thai fighter, kick boxer, or World Combat league fighter could not defend themselves in a fight.

Heck, just saying street fighting has a lot of ideas (a game, a multiple attacker situation, weapons, bare knuckle, etc. etc).

That is why there is a Q%26amp;A :) Don%26#039;t you feel good now?

Oh, I am in MMA as well, I did wrestling, some boxing, Kenpo Karate, Tai Chi, grappling, etc. I have met a lot of MMA guys, a good number of them humble and good guys.
Reply:Yes agree, people think its all about sport fighting period but, at least at the school I train in, there are alot of self defence drills run along side MA classes and if you have steped in the cage you are 10 times more likely to win than the guy who trained as hard as you but who never got into a real fight or a match to test his skills
Reply:if someone gets paid to train 8-12 hours a day in ANY fighting style they will be a bad mofo. its not the techniques, its the training regimine and conditioning that make them such tremendous fighters and atheletes.
