You hear it from everyone. A boxer can%26#039;t beat a cage fighter. A cage fighter would get destroyed by a %26quot;real%26quot; martial artist on the street without rules. Wrestling (not wwe or TNA but real wrestling) isn%26#039;t really a martial art. Traditional Asian martial arts masters can%26#039;t beat UFC fighters. These are all examples of claims posted on here and there%26#039;s plenty more. Don%26#039;t people realize that on any given day, someone using any technique could beat someone else using any other technique? It depends more on the fighters, the circumstances and who gets control. Don%26#039;t people realize there is no truly better martial art, but only better fighters or styles more conducive to certain situations? Why is it so necessary to prove your style is the best anyway? Anyone?
Why do people feel the need to claim their martial art is the best?
I agree with you that there isnt one style that is dominant to all other. I think that people who claim that their style is superior to others are either insecure about the style they train and have to bolster it, have found a style that works for them and feel they are superior or dont really train at all. As martial artist we should all see the values of any style that is practiced correctly(even if we believe our discipline to be more effective)greatly increases the practioners chances of self defense...or at least thats how I see it
Reply:they are vain
Reply:Pride. No one wants to admit that they%26#039;ve spent years studying an art of fighting, that wouldn%26#039;t work in a real fight.
Reply:To quote Bruce Lee %26quot;Be formless... shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle; it becomes the bottle. You put it into a teapot; it becomes the teapot. Water can flow, and it can crash. Be like water, my friend... %26quot;
The Best style is that which is adaptable to every situation and every opponent. It is that which utilizes the environment against the enemy. It is that which exploits the enemy%26#039;s weaknesses and deflects or avoids the strengths.
The problem with this is that no art exists. Sure some have come close to achieving this doctrine to perfection but none have fully ingrated its teachings and this is why no art is perfect.

Reply:just to clear things up wrestlng and boxing are martial arts
Wikipedia:Martial arts are systems of codified practices and traditions of training for combat. They may be studied for various reasons including combat skills, fitness, self-defense, sport, self-cultivation/meditation, mental discipline, character development and building self-confidence, or any combination of the above.
boxing combative , wrestling also combative
also wrestling and boxing are under different categories because alot of ppl who dont do martial arts think boxing isnt it:same with wrestling
a cage fighter is not martial arts its just fighting; MMA(ufc) fighter would do very well in a real fight;MMA fighters are real martial artist because they study Mixed martial arts.
but i do agree that there is no ONE best martial art and it is annoying when ppl claim theres is the best
Reply:Look all you people need to read a great book called the marital way
Reply:the answer is with anything there are a few people who know the truth or are running the show, and 99% of the rest of the population is barely aware what their own opinions actually are.
They are generally emotional about things just to get emotional.
There is a simple %26#039;truth%26#039; to fighting, that settles most arguments or at least brings them very close together. But you will need to ask the right people to get it.
A person who wanted to become a doctor for example would not expect to get too much in the way of a medical education by asking questions here.
The same is for fighting. I can guarantee you of that
Reply:Is there a question in there, or are you just trying to prove a point?
People always want to compare styles. It%26#039;s like comparing brands of shampoo, particularly in America. Culturally, we want to KNOW that we%26#039;re getting the best deal possible. Therefore, American culture bounces comparisons around. Of course a fight boils down to the fighters and their training, not their %26quot;styles%26quot; (Not that anyone with even half a brain thinks that a given MMA fighter has a particular style) but if we realized that, then where would all the posturing go? Where would all the bragging go? What would happen to those poor, fat, out of shape fratboys who think they%26#039;re hard just because they got their butts kicked once at a BJJ open mat?
There will always be style comparisons. People enjoy thinking about things in such glaring contrasts - it%26#039;s easier to think about than having to analyze the individual strengths and weaknesses of a particular fighter. It may be lazy, unrigid thinking, but hey... That%26#039;s popular American culture.
Hooray. I guess I answered your question. Meh. Two points.
Reply:Many years of practicing and learning theses styles will dedicate you to your form.
Reply:People have mind games they play with themselves to bolster confidence .No harm done except when that is the only source of self confidence and as most are basing their opinions on sport results or kid fights that confidence usually evaporates when the truly nasty and savage stuff goes down.
